Admission requirements vary from one institution to another, but common pre-requites are :

• Minimum 12th grade for undergraduate study in a university Community colleges and Technical Institutes are more flexible.
• Minimum of 550 in your TOEFL score (paper based test)/213 (computer based test).
• For Masters degree you require 16 years of education (10+2+4).
• Work experience and a GMAT score of 600 range for MBA Programmes.

Since they are going on a study base where they are going to attend college lectures and participate in group activities and adapt to the environment. for the following purpose government organized an IELTS test which is introduced by one of the renowned university CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY which further is conducted by 2 bodies:

Test Structure

IELTS test is subcategorized in 2 categories; academic and general training. Both consist of 4 modules: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Out of four, three modules (Listening, Reading and Writing) are held on one day and speaking on other day separately. Nowadays, scoring good bands is neither too easy nor too difficult. but perfect coaching at the perfect institute will help surely.
Academic module is for those who wish to study abroad for completion of their higher studies (graduation and masters). mostly colleges offer courses based on the IELTS band score. So buckle up, students do need to work hard.

IELTS – Score processing, reporting, and interpretation. Scores from Band 1 to 9 are given to candidates. A separate profile score is reported for each section. The four respective scores are averaged and rounded off to calculate the Overall Band Score. Each sectional score and the Overall Band Score are reported half bands and full bands

Score Reporting – Candidates receive a Test Report Form that details their Overall Band Score and the scores they have achieved in the Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking sections. The scores of each section are equally important. The Overall Band Score, thereby, is calculated by averaging the scores of the individual sections.

Listening and Reading –IELTS Listening and Reading papers have 40 items, each carrying one mark. Band scores (ranging from Band 1 to Band 9) are awarded depending on their raw scores.

Writing and Speaking –Detailed performance descriptors function as a strict rubric for examiners marking the Writing and Speaking sections of the IELTS exam. The performance descriptors describe the candidate performance level at each of the 9 bands.

The four criteria on which the examiners award a band score in the Writing Section are:

• Task Achievement (for Task 1 and Task 2)
• Coherence and Cohesion
• Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range and Accuracy
• Fluency

Candidates are judged on a band scale of 1 to 9 in each part of the test. These bands clearly mentions a candidate’s ability to use and understand English. IELTS test report form is valid for 2 years only. There is no pass or fail system in IELTS test.

GRAMMAR - Grammar is the system of a language. People sometimes describe grammar as the “rules” of a language,but in fact no language has rules*. If we use the word “rules”,we suggest that somebody created the rules first and then spoke the language, like a new game. But languages did not start like that. Languages started by people making sounds which evolved into words, phrases and sentences. No commonly spoken language is fixed. All languages change over time. What we call "grammar" is simply a reflection of a language at a particular time.

WHY STUDY GRAMMAR - “Grammar is important because it is the language that makes it possible for us to talk about language. Grammar names the types of words and word groups that make up sentences not only in English but in any language. But to be able to talk about how sentences are built, about the types of words and word groups that make up sentences—that is knowing about grammar. And knowing about grammar offers a window into the human mind and into our amazingly complex mental capacity”. People associate grammar with errors and correctness. But knowing about grammar also helps us understand what makes sentences and paragraphs clear and interesting and precise.
